To mark International Women’s Day 2023 we want to introduce you to the amazing women at Synchtank!
We asked them to delve into their roles, favorite syncs, and advice they have for women in music / business.
Janet Kirker | Chief Product Officer
What do you do at Synchtank?
As CPO I’m responsible for making sure that our product features meet the needs of our customers, current and future. I spend a lot of my time with our Business Team and Developers, sharing ideas and thinking of new ways to make the product great!
What is your favorite sync of all time?
One of the synchs that stands out for me is the use of “Mad World” in the Donnie Darko movie. So dark, so different to the original. So haunting. I think that was a great choice.
What would be your advice for women in music / business?
Find out what is driving the company forward in terms of revenue. Share your ideas. Never be afraid, we are all equals.
Jess Swanson | Senior Project Manager
What do you do at Synchtank?
I’m a Senior Project Manager at Synchtank, I oversee the execution of all the awesome projects we execute on our operations team. My days are split working with our talented developers to oversee project execution, project planning with our ops team, and speaking with our lovely customers around the world to report on projects currently in progress.
What is your favorite sync of all time?
My favorite song is “The Whole of the Moon” by The Waterboys, but my favorite sync placement has gotta be “Where Is My Mind” by Pixies in Fight Club.
What would be your advice for women in music / business?
My advice for women and people in any role will always be to do work that feeds your soul, regardless of the gender norms in an industry.
Emma Griffiths | Marketing Manager
What do you do at Synchtank?
As Marketing Manager I am responsible for communicating the value of Synchtank’s solutions. I spend my time developing marketing strategies, overseeing the execution of campaigns, and crafting content for our popular blog Synchblog and industry reports.
What is your favorite sync of all time?
I am incapable of picking just one! Pretty much every needle drop in The Sopranos. Recent ones I’ve liked include Denzel Curry – “Let It All Hang Out” / Elvis, Nirvana – “Something in the Way” / The Batman. My all time classic is probably Simon & Garfunkel – “The Sound of Silence” / Mrs Robinson.
What would be your advice for women in music / business?
Speak up and ask questions. Be an ally to other women in business, not a competitor. Never underestimate your worth or the value of your opinions. And when in doubt ask yourself, what would Dolly Parton do?
Janet Landrum | Royalties Specialist
What do you do at Synchtank?
I am the Royalties Specialist here at Synchtank. My role is to help onboard customers and, using IRIS, help solution specific royalty and copyright scenarios they might be facing.
What is your favorite sync of all time?
Coming from a film/TV background, this is a tough question! I think there is a tie between the use of “American Girl” in Silence of the Lambs and “Sympathy for the Devil” in Interview with a Vampire. It’s really hard to top the entire Moulin Rouge film, however.
What would be your advice for women in music / business?
My advice for women in this business is to just be prepared and be confident. It’s really easy to be intimidated by people who have been in this business for decades, but if you know what you’re talking about; speak up! Music, especially copyright and publishing, is full of amazing women. I owe most of what I’ve learned to some amazing female mentors! Listen and learn!
Olga Trebaticka | UI & UX Tester
What do you do at Synchtank?
I’m a UI & UX tester at Synchtank. The human approach in Synchtank is a great advantage, it makes our days and lives easier and happier.
What is your favorite sync of all time?
I have various favorite composers. Depending on the mood, I would choose from the following: Thom Yorke (Suspirium), Dustin O’Halloran (Transparent), Miroslav Zbirka (Fair Play, The Feather Fairy 2), Marian Varga (I, Olga Hepnarova).
What would be your advice for women in music / business?
For me, it is interesting when an artist tries to express a deeper thought through commercial language. Looking for new topics that resonate with the problems of the contemporary world.
Sophie Gander | Customer Support Agent
What do you do at Synchtank?
My role at Synchtank is Customer Support Agent. As Customer Support Agent I am the first point of call for inbound support enquiries relating to the use of our products. A big part of my role is ensuring we deliver the best in class support to our customers, by working with our internal teams to ensure all customer questions and issues are answered and resolved timely.
What is your favorite sync of all time?
“Make it Right” by Jorja Smith in the film Blue Story.
What would be your advice for women in music / business?
Speak up and make yourself heard – don’t ever think your opinions are invalid or not worthy. Someone will always be listening!
Peta Bernard | Solutions Engineer
What do you do at Synchtank?
I am a solutions engineer at Synchtank. My job is to determine the best ways for our customers to use our software. I will work with our customers to ensure that they are getting the most out of the different modules we offer and how we can help streamline their workflows. I’ll also be demoing systems and new features to our customers to make sure everything runs smoothly.
What is your favorite sync of all time?
I enjoy any syncs that add new tracks to my playlists. From TV, “Istanbul (Not Constantinople)” from Umbrella Academy was a fun surprise and like everyone else “Running Up That Hill” in Stranger Things was on repeat last summer. There have been some good ones in video gaming over the last few years including “O Canto da Cidade” by Daniela Mercury from Valorant and “The Call” feat. 2WEI, Louis Leibfried, and Edda Hayes from League.
What would be your advice for women in music / business?
I think all women should be opinionated and if you think you have a good idea, be confident in it.
Zuzana Müllner | Developer
What do you do at Synchtank?
Since 2014 I am lucky to be part of the Synchtank developers team. I am contributing daily to improve our product and implement new features for clients.
What is your favorite sync of all time?
Scenes from the Les Misérables movie e.g. when they are singing “Do You Hear the People Sing?” or “Empty Chairs at Empty Tables” leaving pretty strong emotion in me and I can listen/watch it over and over.
What would be your advice for women in music / business?
Don’t be afraid, feel free to follow your passion, it doesn’t matter if it is in music or in business or in coding and you are the only woman in the team.
Meg Adams | Marketing Assistant
What do you do at Synchtank?
I work in the marketing team at Synchtank, assisting on all campaigns (inbound and outbound), social media creation like ‘Sync of the Week’ and ‘A week in Music and Media’ as well as contributing to the Synchblog content.
What is your favorite sync of all time?
The Cramps’ “Goo Goo Muck” which featured in the Netflix series Wednesday – big fan of the show and how iconic that scene then became on social media albeit a different song was then used but I couldn’t have thought of a better song to match with the dance.
What would be your advice for women in music / business?
Never be afraid to share your ideas or thoughts, sometimes the wackiest idea can spark the best campaign (especially being in such a creative industry).
Happy International Women’s Day from Synchtank!
