Digital Data Exchange, LLC (DDEX) will be holding its 41st Plenary Meeting in London at the offices of Meta.
DDEX holds physical Plenary Meetings twice a year. It is a chance for all the members to get together and discuss in detail the continued development of the DDEX standards and plan work for the next six months. There are a number of issues that are going to be key to this meeting.
Although DDEX has to continue to develop and maintain its main standards, such as the Electronic Release Notification Message Suite (ERN), the Digital Sales Reporting Message Suite (DSR), the Recording Data and Rights standards (RDR) and the Musical Works Data and Rights standard (MWDR), it must have an eye on new developments and what that means in terms of the existing standards and the need to develop new ones.
With that in mind there will be sessions during the Plenary Meeting on how to manage the operational elements of NFT, Web3 and fingerprint processing. Whilst some of these subjects are not particularly new, discussion of the possible standardisation of the operational and communication issues has only just bubbled to the surface.
As everyone know, unique identifiers are absolutely key to efficient management of the identification and usage of music content. Recently it has become apparent that there may be operational benefits in “clustering” unique identifiers together. So the Plenary Meeting will continue to look at this are, with one possible use case being clustering a number of ISRCs which have (incorrectly) been allocated to the same single sound recording. Also in the area of identification, there will be intense discussions about the identification of parties (that is, all contributors to a musical work or sound recording). There is significant interest within the DDEX community in the International Standard Name Identifier standard and discussions will take place as to how that interest can be best channelled to provide requirements to given that ISNI is used across a very wide range of creative industries.
As well as the three days of Plenary Meeting which is only open to DDEX members, there will be the DDEX BIG Summit 2023 taking place on Thursday 20th April. This is open to non-DDEX members as well. The agenda can be found here and tickets can be purchased here.
Finally, on Friday 21st April, DDEX will host an Implementation Seminar on the DSR and Claim Detail Message standards. This event will provide an explanation of the standards and some member presentations about their implementation experiences with opportunities for attendees to ask questions and raise any issues they have with or requirements they would like to see addressed by the standards. This is free to attend and open to non-DDEX members. Registrations can be made here and the agenda is here.
